Sacramento authorities are working a shooting that erupted on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area at the moment deputies were shutting down an unauthorized event of an estimated several hundred individuals.
Prior to the Shooting
Law enforcement were first dispatched to the park on Howe Avenue at about 6:30 in the evening after obtaining information of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Following that, a second caller reported concerning an alleged brawl breaking out at Howe Park.
An overhead unit searched from above but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. However, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had come together at the location without permission.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by forming a perimeter and making announcements instructing the hundreds present to leave immediately. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for people to comply.
It was during this dispersal that an estimated 20 to 25 shots rang out. The sudden gunfire caused mass panic. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began locating gunshot victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
By the time the scene was secured, four people were discovered with shooting injuries. The shooting victims — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their twenties — were transported to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Emergency physicians confirmed that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one had injuries classified as minor. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department also responded Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 and assisted with medical triage shooting victims before they were taken to the hospital.
Physical Evidence
The center of the incident appears to have occurred along Cottage Way near the Home Depot situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Detectives identified additional shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Bullet holes were noted in the metal fencing bordering the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries indicated that at least one shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from the Cottage Way area aimed at the Home Depot building and parking lot. The store itself was placed on lockdown for a period of time. Crime scene technicians and detectives kept processing evidence throughout the night.

Intelligence received over police scanner frequencies revealed that a Kia connected to the shooting was intercepted in Solano County California. Four occupants were detained. Sheriff's units were heading to pick up the four detainees to collect the individuals for formal questioning. Video that was reviewed made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
